The budget is always a tricky subject. It is a question that needs to be addressed at the very earliest stage of the process, typically when you are just getting to know your clients. It is important to really think about what you want to spend along with your goals. It is very easy to get caught up in the excitement of the process. When consulting on a one room project the budget number I most often hear is $15,000. When asked what the expectations are there is most often a complete disconnect from the figure in your mind.
Having a thorough design plan with estimated costs and a budget will keep you on target. A professional plan will address where you can save and where to splurge while aligning your goals with your budget…..as well as making everything beautiful of course!
This reno was well over $15,000 which I was prepared for from the beginning of the process. I did a plan and a budget along with quotes, however the number I had in mind when I first started my design plan was $15,000….do you see where I am going? I could have kept it there by eliminating a number of things but I was willing to increase my budget to achieve my goals. Because I had a plan I knew right from the start what the costs would come in. There are always a few surprises…like the plumbing issue when relocating the sink, so that cost came in a bit higher. It is important to build a contingency fund just to be sure. If you are interested in seeing the actual costs from the Mini Kitchen Reno please click the link below and I will send it out to you.
